About Gaby
Realism-focused artist
Gaby Nighan is a Colombian-American realist painter known for her figurative works, portraits, and psychologically driven compositions. Through her use of color, light, and observation from life, she explores themes of identity, emotion, and the complexity of the human experience.
Based in New York City, Gaby is completing her classical training at Grand Central Atelier, one of the leading contemporary ateliers focused on traditional realist education. Alongside her studies, she teaches figure drawing at both the Atelier and Drawing America, helping students develop strong observational and structural drawing skills through direct study from life.
Before pursuing fine art professionally, Gaby earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Fine Art from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her background in psychology continues to influence her artistic practice, informing the emotional depth and symbolic qualities present throughout her work. She later continued her studies at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy before joining the Grand Central Atelier core program in New York.
Her work has been recognized internationally, including becoming a finalist in the 18th International ARC Salon and receiving the MEAM Exhibition Award. Gaby’s paintings have appeared in exhibitions and galleries throughout the United States and Europe, reflecting her growing presence within the contemporary realist art movement.
