About Course

Join us for our weekly Drawing Techniques Class – taught by Simon Levenson.

Drawing from still life, students will learn about composition, line weight, negative and positive space, shading, mark-making including hatching, proportion, etc… (not every topic is taught in every class but these are the focus of our sessions).

Class begins by looking at the works of artists and discussing their techniques, followed by a short instructor demonstration. With that inspiration in mind, we will draw for about 2 hours.

We share our work at the end of class (if you wish to) and discuss what we got right and how we can improve going forward.

Please bring a pad up to 11Γ—14, a 2H, HB, and 4B pencil, and an eraser. Materials:Β If you are looking for a good pencil set to bring we recommend theseΒ andΒ a good drawing pad like this one.

About your teacher: Simon Levenson is the founder of Drawing New York, teaches drawing at The Morgan Library and Museum, shows his art at Cavelier Galleries, and has taught oil painting at The Art Students League of New York. His work is permanently installed in the New York City transit system at The Beach 60th Street Station. He recently co-founded The Drawing Foundation a non-profit, dedicated to the art of drawing. He has also written and sold several screenplays.

Looking forward to seeing you!

Important Information

The doors to our events open 15 minutes before each session. If you arrive before then, there is no room to wait inside the building, so please plan accordingly. The doorman will direct you to the classroom.

This event occurs on the third floor of a building without an elevator. Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of the monitor.

There is no photography when the model is posing.

We kindly ask that ticket rescheduling be requested at least 48 hours before class. Space is limited, and we hold spots for all ticket holders.
